Memorial Day, MONDAY, May 28 at 1pm: A very special auction with an important American estate and 300 antiques from France plus 150 estate rugs. Vogt Galleries has been commissioned to sell the estate of Henry Catto & Jessica Hobby Catto along with the remainder of the estate of Oveta Culp Hobby (first female Cabinet member in American history) at auction this Memorial Day. Mr. Catto, a prominent San Antonio businessman, was U.S. Ambassador to England and a board member of both the Smithsonian Institute and National Public Radio.The estate includes artwork by Robert and Julian Onderdonk, the fathers of Texas art, several additional fine artworks (original Robert Harrison), home furnishings, accent pieces, fabulous sterling silver, Native American and New Mexico pottery and baskets, and rare religious santos. Auction highlight: 300 Continental European antiques and 150 European and Persian estate rugs.
